About Gregory

Bio

Hi, I'm Gregory. I have spent quite some time in school. I received my bachelors in physics and masters in math from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). I received the Walter-Schmidt award for excellence in physics from my undergrad. Afterwards I went on to complete my PhD in theoretical physics at North Carolina State University (NCSU) during which I studied phase transitions from ordinary liquid-gas transition to hot nuclear matter.

Before I taught and tutored in math and physics, I was a wakeboard coach on Lake Gaston in North Carolina. I carry the same sort of enthusiasm for math and physics as I did in wakeboarding. I believe this has helped me enable students, as well as myself, to engage in the material in a way which is distinct from normal class settings. My style revolves around introducing students to methods of learning and studying which empower them to become enthusiastic independent learners.

I have taught college algebra, lead various physics lab courses, and tutored both at NCSU and UNCW. The bulk of my experience tutoring comes from my time, around 4 years mostly during my PhD, at Wake Tech Community College in their walk-in learning center. Students came in with a wide range of backgrounds to work on subjects from remedial and introductory courses to sophomore/junior level courses on math and physics. Some were high school students, others returning to school after decades. Students sought help with homework problems, exam and test reviews, and whatever else might come up in class. Most interactions were one-on-one, though there were group sessions as well. This experience working with such a spread of backgrounds has deepened my appreciation for the personal aspect of tutoring.

I look forward to meeting you. Please reach out if you have any questions.
