My name is Joshua. I am a current biology major at Stony Brook University with a passion for medicine. Being on the pre-medical track, I have enrolled and excelled in many challenging courses such as Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Calculus, Biology I and II, Cancer Biology, Statistics, Genetics, and more. Beyond Wyzant, I also work at a local community college helping students with college-level courses such as statistics, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, and more. My pursuit of a bachelor of science in biology combined with my current tutoring position provides the strong background and experience required to both understand the content as well as the source of the student's issues. Both of these factors allow me to find the most efficient approach to each individual student's learning, and ensure their improvement.

It is my goal to thoroughly prepare my students for any variation of difficulty in the content they will encounter during their course(s). I have personally never benefited from a demonstration style of teaching. Instead, learning by trying and failing has been the most effective for my conceptualization of complex topics. Through this process, students will understand why their reasoning was incorrect and have the opportunity to apply the correct logic, leading to improved retention and mastery of the material. While this method enhances comprehension, it more importantly fosters independent thinking and promotes long-term success when using what they have learned outside of instruction. This method works very well with my current students and the success is reflected in their exam scores and subsequent self-confidence.

I am eager to share my knowledge with those who might be struggling in courses within my expertise. I look forward to working with anyone willing to put in the effort to become an academic weapon and crush topics in which they have previously struggled. Let’s get to work!
