I have always been a firm believer in the power of education to shape a young person's life, but an even stronger proponent of the power of an educator to shape a young person's life. Having graduated double-majors in Applied Mathematics and Business Administration: Finance, one might think that I had a stellar track-record of grades in math classes from Pre-K onward, but, as I once was ashamed to admit, it has not been the easiest ride. Though math has always come relatively natural to me, I have relied on the support of teachers--who later became mentors--to help me make sense of it all. That is why I love teaching, so that I, too, can have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the relationship a young student has with learning, just as others have done for me.
I have spent the past four years tutoring and teaching in various capacities, whether as a tutor for college-level mathematics and businesses courses, or as a teacher in a college-prep program, where I was responsible for a variety of math courses (Algebra I & II, Geometry, College-level Statistics, and College-level Pre-Calculus, both for college credit), both in the classroom and in daily group-tutoring sessions.
Though my degree is in applied mathematics, I spent many years tutoring and teaching high school mathematics classes. Most notably, I taught in the Marist College Upward Bound program, a Federally-funded college-prep program that enables students to get ahead in their high school studies, while also allowing them to take classes for college credit. Additionally, there are students who have struggled in a subject from the previous year and must retake the course for high school credit, as well as taking the New York State Regents exam. I was fortunate enough to work with these students to help them pass their exams and regain confidence in themselves.
