Hello! My name is Charlie Wilson, and I graduated from SUNY Geneseo in May 2025 with a degree in Neuroscience, along with minors in English, Mathematics, and a microcredential in scientific writing. For the past three years, I worked 5–15 hours per week as a tutor in multiple roles at SUNY Geneseo, including the Writing Learning Center, the Multicultural Center, and the Equal Opportunity Program. In these positions, I supported students in writing as well as 100–200 level courses in biology, psychology, chemistry, and math. These experiences allowed me to work with diverse learners and adapt my approach to different needs, whether strengthening academic writing, reviewing problem-solving strategies, or clarifying scientific concepts.
Beyond college-level tutoring, I have also enjoyed teaching younger students. At RKids After School Tutoring and Enrichment, I designed and delivered engaging one-hour neuroscience lessons to groups of 2nd–4th graders, sparking their interest in science through interactive activities. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for a Biopsychology course, where I participated in lectures, led review sessions, held office hours, graded assignments, and delivered a prepared presentation. These opportunities taught me the importance of patience, clear communication, and building confidence in learners at different stages.
My tutoring philosophy centers on personalization: I aim to meet students where they are, identify their strengths, and develop strategies that help them become more independent and confident. Drawing from my background in science, math, and writing, I help students make connections across subjects while improving their overall study skills. Whether supporting a student through a difficult assignment or guiding them toward deeper understanding, my goal is always to create a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and growth.
