Bio

I’ve graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a minor in Computer Science, earned an Associate’s in Applied Science degree in Data Processing, a Certificate in Computer Programming, and eight graduate credits in Philosophy.

I’ve graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a minor in Computer Science, earned an Associate’s in Applied Science degree in Data Processing, a Certificate in Computer Programming, and eight graduate credits in Philosophy.

Programming first excited me because it’s artistic science. It lets the programmer describe elegant ways to tackle problems that the computer can solve efficiently because the programmer finds fast ways for it to do that.

So I’ve tutored many college students in many programming languages, including Basic, C, Cobol, Pascal, and Fortran. I’ve also substitute taught Data Processing at a business and technical school, lectured corporation employees on computing, and taught my former coworkers how to use personal computers and business software.

Since students want to excel, our sessions always stay highly student-centered. That’s why the first one can be free to help a student to decide whether to work with me. During that meeting, we’ll talk about what to work on, how you learn best, whether it’s by seeing, hearing, or doing. With that information, we’ll custom-make a strategy to make computer programming more understandable, fulfilling, and fun.

I'm a published author who both helped college students rewrite their papers and prepared books for republication. I'd love to hear from you and I'm eager to help.

COBOL

COBOL

I programmed professionally in Cobol for about two years, tutored college students in it. I've also taken two courses about it and wrote in it during summer jobs I did in high school. It's one of the two programming languages I know best.
Linux

Linux

I'm familiar with Unix and Linux because I took a college course about Unix. For about 12 years, I used and administered a Sunblade 100 workstation from Sun Microsystems that ran Sun's Solaris 8 version of Unix. The iMac's current operating system, MacOS Sierra, is the one I always use at home, and Linux was my chosen operating on two other microcomputers I've owned.
Pascal

Pascal

Pascal is the language I know best because I've studied it at two colleges and at a university, tutored college students in it, and even graded student programs for a professor at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. I still use it here at home and earned an "A" when I took a course in that language. I'm also fluent enough in Pascal to teach a college course about it.
