Tom started with an Kodak 110 Instamatic (Why was it named that anyway - there was nothing “instant” about it) taking pictures of flowers in Riverside, CA. As a graphic design student at Purdue University he discovered photography is an exciting blend of art, technology, chemistry, optics, and mathematics. More importantly, Tom fell in love with the essence of photography: LIGHT. Soft light. Hard light. Dramatic light. Clean light. Dirty light. The different tones, hues, and emotions of light.

He graduated from the Indiana University Ernie Pyle School of Journalism with a degree in Photojournalism and a Minor in Fine Arts. He has worked as a photojournalist for the Herald Times (Bloomington, IN), The Times Mail (Bedford, IN), South Bend Tribune (South Bend, IN), and the Associated Press.

In 1996 he was hired by Indiana Vocational Technical College where he taught classes in professional photography and graphic design. After teaching for four years, Tom moved to NYC to be a photographer and to work as Technical Director of Photography at Long Island University in Brooklyn.

Tom photographs a variety of subjects, and his work includes portraits, still life, sports photography, documenting the carefree play of children, and creating Rorschach-like abstract art. When not behind the camera, Tom spends his time riding his Basso, reading, tinkering with lighting equipment, watching Sci-Fi, and enjoying good dark chocolate. Tom lives in Queens, NY with his wife and two super duper daughters.

Tom has been a photographic and graphic design instructor since 1996. He's taught photography full time at the Indiana Vocation Technical College, occasional photographic workshops at the Manhattan Jewish Community Center, and more recently as an adjunct professor at LIU Brooklyn where he is also Technical Director of Photography.

Over the last 20+ years I’ve photographed a variety of subject matter including: portraits, still life/product, sports, fashion, reportage, architecture, and events. I’ve been a photographic and graphic design instructor since 1996. I’ve taught photography as my full time job at the Indiana Vocation Technical College, occasional photographic workshops at the Manhattan Jewish Community Center, and more recently as an adjunct professor at LIU Brooklyn where I’m also the Technical Director of Photography. I’m familiar with many brands of cameras & lenses, and lighting (flash/strobe/constant source).
