I have extensive experience in the college and Master's degree admissions process with degrees from Yale University (Economics and American Studies double-major, Honors, Early Decision, Gates Millennium Scholar) and Master's degree in City Planning from MIT focusing on economic development (graduated top of my class with a 5.0).

I have helped students write and edit successful college and graduate school essays that have gotten them into Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Northwestern, Boston University, NYU, and Fordham Law. I have also interviewed pre-selected candidates for Yale University as an alumni interviewer in my region.

My background is in marketing, storytelling and communications, as well as life and career coaching. I offer a keen eye for detail to help you communicate your passion, sense of curiosity and achievements in your personal statement. My specialty is in guiding you to bring out your inner voice so that the admissions reviewers see the values and characteristics that you (or your child) bring to their campus.

I love empowering students, including those from disadvantaged and immigrant backgrounds, to share your unique story and vision for how you will contribute to the world. I work with you to learn about your background and accomplishments, which is especially important for people with low self-confidence or self-esteem. Sometimes, the things you don't believe are important are actually great examples of your character and potential!

I have extensive experience in the corporate and nonprofit sectors writing and proofreading. In addition, I have over 15 years of experience mentoring people, from high school students to professionals and executives. Lastly, I have first-hand experience in the admissions process as well as the hiring process in firms in the corporate, nonprofit, and public sectors. Together, these experiences give you an insider's look into what works and how you can present your most professional and confident self.

Career Development

Career Development

I am a graduate of Yale University (Economics and American Studies double-major), a Gates Millennium Scholar, and a graduate of MIT with a Master's degree in City Planning focusing on economic development. I led a 10-year career in urban planning and economic development in New York City and have worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Most recently, I developed initiatives to support entrepreneurs in a variety of industries, from biotech and healthcare tech to media tech, education and nonprofits to grow their businesses. I have extensive experiencing mentoring adults on their career so that they lead creative and inspired, happy lives. I have counseled high school students informally so that they are motivated to keep learning, learn how to professionally network, be a leader, and contribute to society. I'm currently a life purpose coach, helping people both adults and youth explore their passions and live fulfilled lives.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have advised high school students in applying to top-tier universities and graduate schools. I take into consideration a student's academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership experience, unique family or personal history in overcoming challenges, passions, and preferences in my counseling. I have also served as an alumni interviewer for pre-selected students applying to Yale University, so I am familiar with the interview process in my region. I am committed to empowering you or your student because my own guidance counselors in high school didn't believe I should apply to my "reach" schools. I ended up showing them my abilities by getting into Yale University via Early Decision. It is very important for you and your student to reach high, no matter what anyone says. Through my own first-hand experience of being accepted into college and graduate schools at Yale, MIT, Harvard, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and NYU, I am knowledgeable about how a student can think about what colleges or graduate schools to pursue. I informally helped relatives, friends and colleagues think through colleges / graduate schools and the factors for consideration, including culture, academics, student life, location, alumni network, financial aid, extracurricular activities and prestige. Students I've worked with have been accepted into schools like the Ivy League universities, Fordham Law School, and graduate programs at MIT, Columbia, NYU, and UPenn. My strengths are in helping a student identify what their ideal scenario is, helping them to highlight their strengths and unique story particularly through the college essay, and presenting themselves positively and memorably during an interview. For students who are earlier in their high school career, I advise students on how they can pursue leadership experiences in extracurricular activities, including volunteering, internships and school activities. I can help introverted students in particular see their strengths and build confidence. I
Proofreading

Proofreading

I am a graduate of Yale University (Economics and American Studies double-major), a Gates Millennium Scholar, and a graduate of MIT with a Master's degree in City Planning focusing on economic development. I have over 15 years experience in editing and proofreading in both the university and corporate setting. The key to proofreading is not just to catch and fix grammar errors and typos, but also to identify how to tell the story better. Writing is all about masterful storytelling and creating connections with the intended reader or audience.
Writing

Writing

I am a graduate of Yale University (Economics and American Studies double-major), a Gates Millennium Scholar, and a graduate of MIT with a Master's degree in City Planning focusing on economic development. I used to focus heavily on the sciences in high school and my first two years of college, so I've taken biology. I have over 15 years experience in writing for university and corporate settings. I have provided detailed guidance, comments and recommendations for improvement on college essays, resumes, and cover letters. I am committed to empowering you or your child to write with clarity, confidence and resonance with your audience. Writing is all about masterful storytelling and creating connections with the intended reader. With college essays, it is about making you stand out as a unique individual and showcasing your passions, values and achievements that separate you from the crowd.

The best!!

Julie is such an incredible tutor to work with. Before finding her, we tried a couple of other tutors, but none came close to the level of support and guidance she provides. She is truly the perfect partner for the college application journey. Unlike others who simply skimmed over essays and gave general advice, Julie takes a completely different approach. She first asked for my daughter’s resume to identify which activities would stand out most in an essay. Then, she worked through the essay line by line, asking thoughtful questions to ensure that every part clearly reflected her voice and flowed naturally. Her attention to detail and personalized guidance have made all the difference. In just about six hours, we’ve already accomplished so much, and we’re still continuing to work with her. We cannot wait to see the final results. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares and goes above and beyond, you will be so glad you chose to work with Julie!

Knowledgeable and empathetic counselor

Julie has been a great counselor for my son as he starts building his resume for college application. She takes a different approach to counseling and takes into account the individual’s strengths and interests rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. This has resonated much better with my son who is now excited to work the projects, a previously daunting task.

Best of the Best

Look no further. If your considering working with Julie, stop scrolling and just do it. Julie was a dream to work with from start to finish. I would highly recommend Julie for any tutoring related to undergraduate and graduate admissions including but not limited to essays, personal statements, college admissions counseling, etc. She is a bona fide expert, not to mention a she's quite the wordsmith. Not only did Julie help me conceptualize, craft, and edit the perfect graduate school personal statements, but I learned a great deal during the process. I would definitely work with Julie again in the future.
