Dear Parents and Children,
I've been always fascinated by two things: Mathematics and Teaching. My first teacher was an example of excellence for me and, as a child, I often enjoyed role playing games, pretending to be a teacher. When I was a 9th grader, I took 4th place in my town's Math olympiad among 34 contestants from 17 public schools. My love for Math only grew since then and, as a natural outcome of this passion, I became a Teacher and an Engineer. I think, that excellent education and teaching skills are essential characteristics of a great tutor. I'm proud to posses both of these qualities.
I graduated cum laude from Polytechnic Institute of NYU with a Chemical and Biological Engineering major. My overall GPA is 3.55, and my GPA in Math disciplines is 3.74. I also have a teaching degree: Associate of Science in Elementary Education. I graduated from Pedagogical College in Belarus with a perfect GPA of 4.0!
I have over 3 years of educational experience: I was an Elementary School Teacher, a Chemical Engineering Teaching Assistant, and a Summer Camp Counselor. As a teacher, I instructed students individually and in groups in Math, Science, Language, and Art and organized extracurricular activities for the class. As a TA, I created numerous Power Point presentations to prepare students for Fundamentals of Engineering exam. During summer months of 2001-2003 children in my squads and I enjoyed such fun activities as team-building and developmental games, nature studies and crafts, to name a few.
I've been working with children of all ages: from 1st grade to 1st year of college. My most important strategy is to define student's zone of proximal development, which is his or her level of confidence in the subject, and work up from there. In other words, you need to know how to walk before you can run. I am very patient and understanding with children. I firmly believe that every student can achieve advanced level in any discipline with practice and determination.
