Looking for rapid progress in reading and writing? As a certified English teacher, seasoned as a professional writer and editor and by more than 20 years teaching and tutoring, I draw from a sizable toolbox to accelerate advancement and go above and beyond to achieve results.

My students discover the fun of thinking on paper, making sense of readings by exploring their own questions, observations, and responses. As readers, they learn to see the big picture and get the facts straight while deepening their appreciation of literary elements and figurative devices. As writers, they gain focus, depth, and power, turning vague, rambling verbiage into precise, concise constructions demonstrating clear points with telling examples, key details, and energetic verbs. My students improve in grammar, usage, punctuation, and spelling by creating personal style sheets indicating major errors they need to avoid. They expand their vocabulary by learning the building blocks of words, examining context clues, creating flash cards, playing word games, and acting out new terms. English can be baffling because it derives from various languages with diverse roots and rules. I delight in helping students crack the code and gain mastery of this language of more than a million words.

Get expert help crafting essays, research papers, any writing assignment. I tailor lessons to individual needs, including help with elementary math, statewide tests, and interdisciplinary studies. As a history buff with a BA in the subject, I offer knowledgeable guidance in social studies. My students range from kindergarteners to adults and include ESL learners.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught third and first grade classes and tutor elementary school children of all ages in reading, writing, and math. I tailor lessons to student interests and learning styles, engaging them with art, music, and games when helpful. Young readers may dictate and illustrate stories I record; they love being able to read their own stories to parents. Young math learners may learn about three dimensional shapes by creating them out of paper. One student troubled by fractions quickly mastered them by playing a card game I made up, with rules based on facts about fractions.
