I have had the privilege of teaching in NYC high schools for the last twenty-three years, teaching Creative Writing, English (grades 7-12), Public Speaking with a concentration in storytelling, and AP Psychology. As an educator at an early college high school, I have been assigned the role of college essay advisor as well as early college coach, where I work with students one-on-one to help them draft their college personal statements as well as essays for college and AP courses.
I am an author of two novels and most recently, a poetry collection. Using my experience as a writer and teacher, I mentor students throughout their creative process, guiding them from brainstorming a piece of writing to submitting work to literary journals. In this capacity, I help students edit and redraft their work and navigate them through the difficulties of mental road blocks to technical language and offer my skills as a developmental editor.
As a public speaking teacher, I offer myself to students who struggle with confidence and coach them in all areas of presenting themselves in a public capacity: body language, projection, tone, eye contact and all the nuances of delivery. This April I am giving my first TED Talk - Teaching Kids to Tell Their Stories: Vulnerability to Visibility.
