Hi, my name is Esther and I am currently an Algebra teacher. I graduated from Baruch College CUNY with a master's degree in Statistics, and from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor's in Statistics. As you can see, I love learning Statistics. What made my college experience more special was my advisor. Throughout my life, I've had the pleasure of having many mentors and role models that supported me through my education. And I have always sought to participate in that cycle. I started tutoring in middle school and never stopped. I have worked with students aged K-12 with everything from multiplication and division to Calculus. I have worked in a classroom setting, with small groups, and one-on-one. I love working the most with students who don't enjoy math, because I hope that I can show them why math is important, and that they can do it regardless of how daunting it seems. During college, I was a teaching assistant in the mathematics department and I assisted for Calculus I, Statistics I, and Linear Algebra. Helping other students through tutoring brings me the greatest sense of fulfillment, and it suits me because I am a very patient and supportive individual.
Being able to teach in my current job is such a gift, because I truly enjoy what I do everyday. I love expanding my student's perspective and helping them to develop important skills that will prepare them for their careers or future study in mathematics. I like to give lectures and give students time to practice the skills, or help with homework. What I can offer to my students is individualized attention that meets their needs, and also studying material such as problem sets or notes. I like to ask students questions that hopefully will bridge their understanding and connect what they're learning to things they already know.
