I hold a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice through the Macaulay Honors College, as well as an M.S. in Integrated Biology and Ecology from Michigan State University. My academic background spans cell and molecular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, conservation biology, and related biological sciences. My graduate training also involved scientific research in population genetics and ecology, giving me experience not only with biological concepts but with applying them through research, data interpretation, and scientific reasoning.
I have experience teaching and supporting undergraduate students as a teaching assistant, where I helped students work through biological concepts, answer questions, and develop a stronger understanding of the material rather than simply memorize terminology. My approach to tutoring is centered on identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down and rebuilding the concept from that point. I use analogies, diagrams, step-by-step explanations, practice problems, and connections between topics to make complex biology more intuitive. I am comfortable working with students at different levels and adjusting my explanations based on how an individual student learns. My goal is for students to leave a session understanding not only what the correct answer is, but why it is correct and how the underlying biological system works.
