Hello, my name is Michelle, and I recently graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a B.A. in Environmental Science and Sustainability and a minor in Computer Science. I currently work as a teacher and assistant manager at Royal Test Prep, where I teach students ranging from K–6 through high school. I regularly teach math and English for elementary students, as well as in-person one-on-one classes in Regents Living Environment/Biology, Algebra, AMC 10, and AP World History. I am bilingual in Mandarin and English and have taught ENL classes to elementary students, as well as students with special learning needs in English, math, AP World History, and AMC 10.
In addition to classroom teaching, I served as a teaching assistant for the Opportunity Network’s Summer Science Research Program, where I mentored high school students on research methods, scientific writing, project development, and college readiness. I also spent two years as a student researcher at the Columbia Climate School, focusing on data analysis using R, Excel, and ArcGIS, as well as sustainability and economic policy research. This experience strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly and guide students through structured problem-solving.
As a tutor, I focus on building strong academic foundations by teaching students how to study effectively, apply test-taking strategies, and approach problems with confidence. I tailor my approach to each student’s learning style and needs, and I’m happy to help with coursework, exam preparation, research projects, and college preparation.
