I am an experienced chess instructor with over 25 years of teaching and coaching across a range of skill levels. As a Senior Master with a FIDE rating above 2,350 and a three-time NY Chess Champion, I combine competitive expertise with a deep commitment to effective instruction. Many of my students have gone on to achieve national titles in their age groups and I take great pride in supporting their development both as players and as thinkers.
Throughout my career, I taught at several respected institutions, including The School at Columbia University, P.S. 110, the Harlem Children’s Zone, and the Gifted & Talented Anderson School, where I developed a full-year chess enrichment curriculum. In addition to in-person teaching, I also conduct remote lessons that are highly focused, efficient, and engaging. My online instruction is designed to make the most of each session, offering clear guidance and interactive learning that keeps students actively involved.
I hold a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Civil Engineering in Kiev, Ukraine. This technical background has shaped my structured, analytical approach to teaching. I view chess as more than a game, it is a strong educational tool that promotes critical thinking, patience, and discipline. Whether in person or online, my goal is to provide students with a strong foundation in chess and help them apply its lessons beyond the chessboard.
