I am a rising senior at Emory University doing a Biology and Chemistry double major with a focus in premedical studies. I have three years of experience tutoring high level college classes specializing in difficult subjects such as organic chemistry I and II. My academic background allowed me to develop a strong foundation in chemistry and makes it easier to communicate and lead current students that are struggling to approach the subjects or are following a similar path in pre med.
My tutoring approach has been tried and tested for three years, emphasizing the student’s specific learning strategy and fostering critical thinking and problem solving skills that will serve them well in the future. I specifically modify my teaching methods for each student, including involving interactive questioning and professionally-scaffolded problem solving to help develop confidence and practical skills in the subject. In addition, my experience as a current student would allow me to better understand and communicate with my peers to help them navigate an uncertain path as well as develop high quality learning skills and study habits that would help them far into the future.
My previous experience includes working as a teacher’s assistant for high drop rate chemistry classes, such as organic chemistry I and II, where I learned how to communicate difficult topics into easily understandable pieces. I also worked as an AP Biology tutor where I developed skills to work with high schoolers on an AP curriculum. Most recently, I am working as a private Emory employed organic chemistry tutor, where I developed skills to adapt my teaching style to best fit the student I am working with.
With my students, I aim to create a supportive, respectful, and results-oriented environment where both the student and tutor can develop together. I view education as a partnership that can empower students to take ownership of their learning, not just in the subject they struggle in, but in all their studies and future endeavors with learning.
