Hi! I'm Kate. I have an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from Tisch at NYU, where I studied book and lyric writing. Previously, I did my undergrad at Sarah Lawrence College where I studied theatre performance and creative fiction writing.
I am a professional musical theatre writer working regularly in the field with over 10 years experience. I am one of the writers of How to Train Your Dragon Jr. (DreamWorks/Universal) and my writing has been produced by or developed with Prospect Theater Company, Apples and Oranges Arts, Manhattan School of Music, Athena Theatre Company, Monsterpiece Theater Collective, New York Theater Festival, The Dare Tactic, Open Jar, New York Theatre Barn, Steinhardt School of Music, Illinois Wesleyan, and Tisch. I am a two-time Kleban Prize Finalist (book & lyrics), two-time Jonathan Larson Grant Finalist (book & lyrics), and 2021 PMCA Emerging Playwright Competition Winner.
I have workshopped my musicals with student and adult performers of all ages, and am passionate about helping students find their voice–whether it's through songwriting, musical theatre book/lyrics, playwriting, fiction/creative writing, script coverage/treatment writing, or dramatic performance coaching.
In terms of tutoring, my main goal is to help you unlock your creative potential and support your own unique talents. A natural collaborator, I am ready to work with you to define goals that feel not only exciting, but achievable. Essentially, I want you to thrive and find joy (plus results) in our work together!
My cancellation policy is only 24 hours in advance of a class. You will be charged for any lesson not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.
