SUNY Cortland (Business Economics)
SUNY Cortland (Master's)
My name is Colin and I just finished my Master's Degree in Sport Management at SUNY Cortland this month. I also received my Bachelor's Degree from Cortland in Business Economics and have an Associate's Degree in International Business from Broome Community College as well. I have always loved and done well in school, particularly in math and English. I love writing, sports, helping others, and working.
Although I have no formal experience with tutoring, I tutor my girlfriend's sister in English and math frequently; she is in middle school. I love tutoring because it keeps my mind fresh on important aspects of school that I still use at work, and I find great satisfaction in helping others succeed in their educational goals that they are having difficulty with.
I am a great math tutor because I have always excelled in math. For all three of my degrees, math was probably the most important area of study, and I continue to use it every day. I also also am great at teaching math because I don't just find the answer, but I have the understanding of why that is the correct answer, and how to get there step-by-step.
I am a great English tutor for a number of reasons. English is my favorite subject, and writing made up the majority of my coursework for my Master's degree. I am excellent at spelling, have a wide-ranging vocabulary, and grammar is also a strong suit of mine. Having a passion for writing, regardless of the topic, is the key to being successful in English. Giving students who dislike or struggle in English the tools to understand grammar and expand their vocabulary allows them to appreciate their language skills so much more, and gives them the tools to feel comfortable with reading and writing.
Please feel free to contact me if you are struggling in math or English, at any level. I can help classwork become more understandable and less stressful, and put you on the right track to be successful on your own as well. I like to have fun while achieving your goals, and with my mother and two sisters being educators, I have learned a number of different methods to help you in the way that suits your learning style best. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
