After graduating from college, I studied Spanish at El Instituto de La Lengua Española in San José, Costa Rica and graduated with a Diploma in Latin American Spanish as a Second Language. This was a great help to me during my years as a missionary to the people of the Peruvian Amazon jungle where I taught Bible and worked with children, teens and women. After Peru, I returned to the United States and taught High School Spanish for 2 years at a local Christian school and later led a Spanish conversation club for 8 years to undergraduate college students on the residential campus where I lived and ministered. I have also tutored high school students, college students and older adults privately as well as on this platform.
I am a Christian faith-based storyteller/event speaker specializing in using biblical narratives and contemporary stories of faith to help women navigate transitions in life. I hold a Bachelor of Religious Education degree in Bible/Foreign Missions and a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies and Writing. All this enables me to integrate Bible stories and personal narratives into my teaching of Spanish so that my students leave each session having been built up in both in the Spanish and in the spiritual. I also teach a specialty theme I call "The Not So Scary Subjunctive" which elevates students' from past-present-future to mood-intention-speculation.
I'm good with children, teens, people preparing for missions trips to Central/South America, and with parent education for those homeschooling their kids in Spanish.
