I have tutored off and on for 7 years and have been a teaching assistant for one year while obtaining my Masters which is in biomedical sciences with a focus on stem cell biology. I believe that understanding a topic is the key to doing well in it. I did not do well in high school and for the first few years of undergraduate because I tried to memorize most information, which does not work. Once I understood WHY something happened, it was like a switch was flipped on. It is this form of tutoring that I instill in people and would hope to bring out in more students.
I have tutored in all subjects, especially organic chemistry and biochemistry. I've taken students who were failing and gave them the understanding and skills in order to pass (though getting an A is more about study habits than what anyone person can tutor).
