I am a New York State–certified mathematics teacher (Grades 7–12) with over 30 years of classroom experience, including 22 years with the NYC Department of Education and 10 years as a Math for America Master Teacher Fellow.
I taught Grades 7–8 math and Regents Algebra I at I.S. 192 in Queens for 16 years, where I also wrote department pacing calendars and led STEM workshops for teachers. From 2020 to 2025 I taught GED Math and Science to adults at Queens Adult Education and designed a math-only GED prep course. I also tutor Geometry, Algebra II and Trigonometry privately. Earlier in my career I headed a high school math department in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and I worked for years as a programmer and computer trainer. I also worked as Math High School Teacher in Mumbai, India.
Many of my students came to me believing they were “not math people.” My approach is patient and step by step. First I find out exactly where you are, then I build one idea at a time until the math makes sense instead of just being memorized. I have taught many students whose first language is not English, and I explain math vocabulary and word problems in clear, simple language.
Whether you need help with middle school math, Algebra I, Regents exams, the GED or GRE Quant, you will get clear explanations, plenty of practice and steady encouragement. I teach online with Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams, and I know Google Classroom well. Send me a message about your goals, and let’s get started
