Hello Good day,

I am a dedicated academic tutor with over a decade of experience teaching mathematics and engineering fundamentals across multiple levels. I am two classes away from completing my associate degree in Mechanical Engineering and Science at LaGuardia Community College, and I am currently halfway through my bachelor’s program in Aerospace Engineering and Science at EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University. My professional background includes working for the New York City Department of Education as a teacher’s assistant, where I support students in classroom learning (including smart classrooms) and individualized instruction. From 2008 to 2020, I also worked in the Mathematics Department at LaGuardia Community College, tutoring every level of math offered at the college and serving as a lab instructor for the remedial math sequence. These roles have given me a deep understanding of how students learn, where they struggle, and how to guide them toward confidence and mastery to the best of my abilities.

My tutoring approach is built on clarity, patience, and structured problemsolving. I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into simple, manageable steps that help students truly understand the material rather than memorize it. Whether I am supporting a middleschool learner, a college student tackling calculus, or an adult returning to school, I create a positive and organized learning environment tailored to each student’s needs. I focus on strengthening foundational skills, developing strong study habits, and building longterm academic confidence. Students working with me can expect clear explanations, guided practice, and a supportive atmosphere that encourages questions and celebrates progress. My goal is always to help learners not only improve their grades but also develop the independence and critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout their academic journey.

Thank you,
Steven Mangi

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

I have extensive experience helping students raise their ACT English scores by teaching clear, repeatable strategies for grammar, punctuation, and rhetorical skills. I break down the section into the key areas the test emphasizes most — grammar rules, sentence structure, punctuation, and organization and style — so students know exactly what to look for. My approach focuses on fast error‑spotting, pattern recognition, and smart elimination strategies that help students work confidently under time pressure. With targeted practice and clear explanations, students quickly improve both accuracy and pacing.
ACT Math

ACT Math

I have extensive experience helping students raise their ACT Math scores through clear instruction, targeted practice, and strategic test‑taking methods. I teach the core topics the ACT emphasizes most — algebra, functions, geometry, trigonometry, and data/problem solving — while also showing students how to work efficiently under time pressure. My approach focuses on pattern recognition, pacing strategies, and smart use of the digital ACT Desmos calculator so students can maximize points quickly. Whether a student is aiming for major improvement or pushing for a top score, I help them build confidence and perform at their best.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I have nearly twenty years of experience helping students improve their ACT Reading scores through clear strategies, targeted practice, and efficient passage‑reading methods. I teach students how to break down the four passage types — literary narrative, social science, humanities, and natural science — using main‑idea recognition, inference skills, and evidence‑based elimination. My approach focuses on speed, accuracy, and confidence, showing students how to avoid trap answers and manage time effectively. With structured practice and repeatable strategies, students quickly see improvement in both pacing and comprehension.
ACT Science

ACT Science

I specialize in helping students improve their ACT Science scores by teaching the section the way it actually works: fast data reading, pattern recognition, and efficient passage strategies. I break down the three passage types — Data Representation, Research Summaries, and Conflicting Viewpoints — so students know exactly what to look for and how to avoid common traps. My approach focuses on speed, accuracy, and confidence, using targeted practice and timing techniques that consistently raise scores. Students learn how to extract information quickly, compare experiments, and answer questions without getting stuck on unnecessary details.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

have many years of experience helping students master Algebra 1 through clear, step‑by‑step explanations that build confidence and strong problem‑solving skills. I focus on the core topics students need most: equations, functions, graphing, linear relationships, and systems of equations. My approach is patient, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs so they understand not just how to solve problems, but why the methods work. Whether a student is catching up or aiming to excel, I help them feel confident and prepared.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have many years of experience helping students master Algebra 2 through clear, step‑by‑step explanations that make advanced topics feel manageable. I teach the core concepts students struggle with most, including quadratics, polynomial functions, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations. My approach is structured, patient, and focused on building strong problem‑solving skills so students understand both the how and the why behind each method. Whether a student needs support catching up or wants to strengthen their foundation for higher‑level math, I help them build confidence and succeed.
Biology

Biology

I have many years of experience helping students understand Biology through clear explanations, visual breakdowns, and real‑world examples that make the subject easier to grasp. I teach all major topics, including cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human body systems, with a focus on building strong conceptual understanding. My approach is patient, structured, and tailored to each student’s learning style so they can connect ideas, analyze data, and feel confident in class and on exams. Whether a student needs support with homework, Regents prep, or general coursework, I help them master the material step by step.
Calculus

Calculus

I have nearly twenty years of experience helping students succeed in Calculus, from foundational limits to advanced applications of derivatives and integrals. I teach the major topics step‑by‑step — limits, continuity, derivative rules, optimization, related rates, definite and indefinite integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus — with a focus on building deep conceptual understanding. My approach emphasizes clear explanations, visual reasoning, and structured problem‑solving so students can connect ideas and work confidently through challenging questions. Whether a student is preparing for AP Calculus, college Calculus, or strengthening their foundation for engineering and science, I help them master the skills they need. .
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have many years of experience helping elementary students build strong number sense, confidence, and problem‑solving skills through clear, step‑by‑step instruction. I teach the core concepts students need most — place value, addition and subtraction fluency, early multiplication and division, fractions, and word‑problem strategies — using visual models and supportive explanations that make math feel approachable. My approach is patient, structured, and encouraging, especially for students who feel unsure or need extra practice. Whether a child is catching up or getting ahead, I help them develop the skills they need for long‑term success.
GED

GED

I have extensive experience helping adult learners and returning students prepare for the GED Math exam with clear, patient, step‑by‑step instruction.
