As a Writing Tutor and Mentor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Marks Family Writing Center, I was selected through a highly competitive application process and recognized among the top 1% of undergraduate students for excellence in writing instruction and student support. Before beginning my role, I received intensive training from Penn faculty in writing pedagogy, inclusive teaching strategies, and best practices for supporting students across academic disciplines. Over the course of four years, I conducted more than 100 personalized sessions with undergraduate students, helping them refine clarity, organization, and critical thinking in their writing. The Writing Center is one of Penn’s most prestigious academic programs, and I was also entrusted with mentoring newly hired tutors—an opportunity that reflects both my leadership and commitment to collaborative learning.
My tutoring philosophy centers on building students’ confidence and independence as writers. I use inquiry-based techniques, goal setting, and reflective dialogue to support each student’s unique writing process. I’ve worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds, including English Language Learners and first-generation college students. These experiences, along with my academic training in Criminology and Public Health, have strengthened my ability to connect across disciplines and support students with empathy, clarity, and purpose.
