I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Hunter College's highly selective program. I received a full scholarship to study literature with a concentration in writing poetry, with the end result being a sixty-five-page thesis. The degree I have is a terminal degree, meaning I can teach at the college level. I earned it studying some of the most complex forms of literature, craft, writing, and pedagogy. My training put an emphasis on critical analysis and close reading of poems, essays, and works of fiction, across a creative and academic lens. I fostered a strong foundation in understanding poetic forms, essay structure, thesis development, revision strategy, and methods for successful written communication.
My teaching experience comes from graduate-level workshops, craft workshops, and thesis workshops, where I steadily provided detailed feedback on peers' essays, creative manuscripts, and pedagogical projects. I also worked one-on-one to help first-year students develop their voice, learn aspects of craft and technique, and improve clarity, tone, organization, and logical reasoning in their essays and poems. This often meant guiding them through revisions and identifying structural weaknesses. When it came to poetry, it meant strengthening sound, imagery, or intellectual tone. (Ezra Pound called these three modes melopoeia, phanopoeia, and logopoeia.) Fiction/Lit study with Roxana Robinson equipped me with the practical tools I needed for strong essay writing about major themes in books like Anna Karenina, To the Lighthouse, The House of Mirth. I am able to explain complex writing concepts in ways that are more accessible for those who may not find poetry or literature so exciting, which I understand and do not judge. It is my job as a teacher and tutor to tailor feedback to each student in a way that is unique to their learning experience.
I enjoy working with students who need help, or simply want to improve. I can give them the confidence to gain the technical skills needed to write well.
