Hi! I’m Jon M, a New York State–certified Social Studies teacher (Grades 5–12) with 8 years of classroom experience teaching in Nassau and Suffolk County school districts on Long Island. I’ve taught a wide range of grade levels and courses and bring a calm, structured, and student-centered approach to every session.
Subjects & support: I tutor Social Studies for Grades 5–12, including help with day-to-day classwork, projects, and assessments. I also support students preparing for Regents exams and AP coursework, with an emphasis on reading comprehension, analysis of primary/secondary sources, DBQ-style writing, short responses, and organization/study strategies.
My teaching method: I focus on making history clear and approachable. Sessions are tailored to the student’s current unit and teacher expectations. I break down complex topics into manageable steps, teach helpful frameworks for writing and document analysis, and provide guided practice so students can build confidence and work independently. I’m happy to coordinate with families on goals and share progress along the way.
Policies: I offer a brief introductory message/consultation to discuss goals and determine a plan. Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling when possible.
