I'm Abby! I graduated with magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Human Performance with a concentration in recreational leadership and a minor in Professional Education, allowing me to gain a temporary teaching certificate in the state of Florida as well.
I have worked at a sports summer camp for kids ages 5-12 for the past 5 summers. I have been a substitute aide where I help students who need extra assistance in the classroom, I have been a full substitute teacher in a different district, I have done observational practicums in high school ESOL classes, as well as physical education classes, and I have been a babysitter on and off for over 10 years.
I enjoy helping students in all subjects, and through my college/ working experience, I have learned how to make learning fun and engaging. I have helped elementary students in math, science, social studies, writing, spelling, and even in physical education, sports, and fitness. While substitute teaching, I came across a lot of English language learners, where I was able to help teach them learn some English, and they were able to help me learn their native language! I think it is important to make the students feel heard by showing that I care about their native language as well!
Since I studied abroad in Greece, I can understand students' confusion in hearing a language they can hardly understand, and I want to be able to help create a safe environment for them to learn in.
Overall, I truly love teaching and want to share my knowledge as well as make learning fun for as many students as possible!
