I am a dedicated educator with over 10 years of experience teaching at the college level. Currently, I am a Professor of Practice at the University at Albany in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I hold bachelor’s degrees in computer science and mathematics from St. Lawrence University, a master’s degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a doctorate in information science from the University at Albany. I have taught (literately) thousands of students and have developed a diverse range of courses across multiple departments, including programming at various levels, operating systems, computer organization, and embedded systems.
I have received numerous teaching awards, including the University at Albany’s Experiential Education Impact Award, the President’s Award for Exemplary Public Engagement, and the President’s Award for Leadership. Additionally, I have received the Outstanding Service Award from the university’s Disability Resource Center, in which I was nominated by a visually impaired student. Although I almost exclusively teach face-to-face, I have experience teaching online, as well as hybrid courses. Students often describe me as patient, kind, receptive to feedback, and highly supportive.
I have a long history of mentoring students both inside and outside of the classroom. Besides supporting students in my classes, I have served as the university’s IEEE student branch counselor for many years and regularly mentor student teams in university engineering design competitions (in which my student teams have successfully won $35,000 in prize money).
I absolutely love teaching and helping others appreciate the beauty of computer science and engineering. I had a child about a year and a half ago, which has motivated me to branch out into online tutoring to make some extra income during the summer. I would love to help you succeed in your journey, so please reach out if you have any questions or are interested in my services.
