Bio

Kurt S. has been teaching mathematics and computer science for the past 36 years in high school and college. He has specialized in working with gifted mathematics students at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, Berkshire School in Massachusetts and King School in Connecticut. As mathematics department chair at Marlborough and Berkshire, he completely revised the mathematics curriculum and instituted accelerated programs designed to serve students that are passionate about mathematics.

Kurt S. has been teaching mathematics and computer science for the past 36 years in high school and college. He has specialized in working with gifted mathematics students at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, Berkshire School in Massachusetts and King School in Connecticut. As mathematics department chair at Marlborough and Berkshire, he completely revised the mathematics curriculum and instituted accelerated programs designed to serve students that are passionate about mathematics.

At Berkshire and at King, he founded the Advanced Math/Science Research program. This program places students with professional researchers who act as their mentors as the students engage in cutting edge scientific research at some of the most prestigious research institutions in the United States. His students have competed in the INTEL Science Talent Search contest, and he has worked with many INTEL award winners, including 5 Intel Semifinalists. Many of his students have been published in scientific journals, including Mika Nakashige, who was published as a principal author in the prestigious Journal of Anatomy.

Mr. S. has a master’s degree in mathematics, bachelor degrees in mathematics and computer science, and a mathematics teaching credential. He is listed in Who’s Who of American educators and is also the recipient of the Seaver Buck Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition, Mr. S. was featured in a book by New York Times best-selling author Karin Stabiner, and he was also featured in a New York Times article. Mr. S. has taught over 100 students who have matriculated to Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, MIT, and CalTech. His math teams at Berkshire consistently ranked in the top ten in all of New England.
