I am currently an Elementary Assistant Principal and have been for a little less than 3 years. My career began many years ago when my little sister struggled through school and I always wanted to help her to get better! Then, I decided to become a teacher! I began with majoring in early childhood and elementary education. However, within one year of college, I realized that I had a calling for helping the kids that struggle so I changed my major to elementary education and special education in grades 1-6!

I was honored to obtain my first job as a special educator right after graduation! I was a consultant teacher for 8 years and then became a teacher for students with an academic delay for 3 years in a 12:1:1 classroom. During that time, I got my masters in Literacy education for students in grades K-12!

While teaching, I started to take on multiple leadership roles in my school. I decided to go into administration and obtained a certificate of advanced study. Then, I became an Assistant Principal three years ago!

Aside from being a principal, I am a wife and mother of two beautiful children. As an early teacher, I tutored some high school students for the SATs and another middle school student who struggled with reading. I miss teaching kids and would love to tutor students in my spare time to be able to teach while continuing to pursue my career as a leader!

I am highly knowledgeable in the Common Core for mathematics, especially in NYS. I know the NYS modules inside and out as well as know how to modify them to ensure success with different learning styles!

I have my Master’s Degree in Literacy and am highly knowledgeable in teaching both foundational reading skills for early elementary as well as comprehension skills for upper elementary.

I have utilized several types of phonics programs which have helped me to shape my beliefs and Instructional strategies around phonics. I know how to conduct a running reading record to assess students current skill in phonics and reading and can use that i
