Teachers who are passionate about music are more engaging, enthusiastic, and willing to go out of their way to ensure a student's success. That energy, dedication, and passion are qualities I strive to have in my own teaching. I approach each lesson with a commitment to a hybrid practice and student-centered teaching style aimed at fostering a love for music and growth as a musician. This includes creating a supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace.
My passion for music extends to a broad range of musical experience. For the past 14 years, I have taken private piano lessons encompassing fundamentals, jazz, classical, and music theory. I have held positions as a church pianist, collaborated as an accompanist for vocalists and instrumentalists alike, worked in theatrical orchestra pits, played for background music gigs, and been in several bands as the keys; I also have experience auditioning and playing in honors bands, All-State festivals, and college music programs and performing ensembles. I am currently studying music in college and intend to keep music at the forefront of my life.
As a summer camp counselor for the past three years, I gained experience working with young people and learning how to engage them in different subjects and activities. My creative mindset has helped me to approach teaching with an adaptable mentality. The campers were receptive to this and would grow more enthusiastic about getting to learn new things each day. Beyond that, I have used my experience in the musical field to help my peers through obstacles in their learning as well. Taking up piano as a hobby is a popular activity, and I can provide my insight for better practicing techniques and phrasing for musicality.
