I have a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language and was previously certified in ESL (K-12) and English (7-12) in Vermont. Since my retirement from full-time teaching I have stayed active by tutoring and volunteer teaching.
I firmly believe that tutoring is a unique relationship between the teacher and student. The first meeting is the most important. This is where we discuss the student's expectations and the ability of the teacher to help with those expectations. If it's a good fit, we move on from there.
