Hi, I'm Shiraz!
I'm a statistician and quantitative researcher with over 15 years of experience applying mathematics, statistics, and data analysis in both finance and biomedical research. My professional background includes building forecasting models for an $8 billion hedge fund, conducting statistical genetics research at Columbia University and Mount Sinai, and working as a biostatistician and bioinformatician in academic medicine.
While I love math and statistics, what I enjoy most is helping students build confidence in subjects that often feel intimidating. I have extensive mentoring experience working with high school and college students, including through charter school programs such as KIPP and college-access and career-readiness organizations like America Needs You (New York Chapter). I've also mentored graduate students and early-career researchers, helping them develop analytical skills and communicate complex ideas effectively.
I tutor high school algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and introductory calculus, as well as college-level statistics, probability, and quantitative methods. My approach is patient, practical, and focused on understanding—not memorization. Whether you're preparing for an exam, working through a challenging course, or trying to strengthen your quantitative foundation, I'll meet you where you are and help you make steady progress.
My goal is simple: help you understand the material, gain confidence, and become a more independent problem solver.
