I have been teaching and tutoring math and physics at all levels since 1999, and I am extremely comfortable with the material and how to tutor it to the individual student. I've completed my 10,000 hours of tutoring and 10,000 hours of teaching, which is a significantly meaningful amount of time according to Malcolm Gladwell's book, Outliers. I specialize in making students permanently better at math from basic algebra through advanced calculus, as well as physics with and without calculus.

My fee on Wyzant's platform is what you see. I do not go up nor down with that fee because at that level, I can fill my entire schedule, and I don't believe in wasting either of our time with that silly step of making my fee higher to negotiate down later. We can get to work much more quickly by being honest and getting right to discussing our tutoring needs! Students with whom I work tend to come back to me because I am able to bring about improvement very quickly. Most of my students end my sessions surprised at the level of improvement they are able to reach. I have a 5.0 star rating on Wyzant's platform because I am very effective.

No tutor can guarantee future results but most tutors cannot claim past results like I have. I've often turned a low 20 into a 35 or 36. Despite the fact that the national average improvement after tutoring is 4%, meaning that a 20 turns into just a 21, I get improvement that's better than that after just one session. My students have seen over a 20% Improvement on the ACT, and that's not even rare for me. That is in fact the majority of cases for me. I am honest with my record, and I have only one (1) SAT or ACT math student not improve by at least 10% over my entire tutoring career lasting over a quarter century which started in 1999. While no tutor can guarantee results, what I can guarantee is a track record of 25+ years of experience with phenomenal progress. That is actually common for me. I blow that 4% average improvement out of the water. I tutor for the ACT and SAT test with special focus on the math section, but I also cover the science section of the ACT.
ACT Science

Juan has tutored for the ACT science section for over fifteen years, and excels at improving student scores in a very short time. All of his students have improved by at least 15% relative to either previous official tests or practice tests, and most have improved by over 20%. In the process of training to become a school teacher, I took a course in teaching students with disabilities. Training included student teaching at a school and working one-on-one with a student who was diagnosed with ADHD. Since receiving my certification, I have had over 100 students who had IEPs that include diagnosis of ADHD, both inattentive type and hyperactive type.

Most of my AP calc AB/Calc BC students get a 5 on the AP and most of my IB students get a 6 or 7 on IB. I am an Elite calc tutor who has been tutoring for 25+ years, officially since 1999. My students tend to improve quickly and by far more than they expected. Most parents say that their kids just need some improvement, but then their kids get an A, and that's why they keep working with me. I have a master's degree in mathematics with over 100 undergraduate and graduate math course credits. I have tutored calculus at the college and high school level and despite the national average improvement after tutoring being 4%, all of my students except five (5) over the course of 25+ years and across ALL subjects, not just calculus, have improved by at least 10%, with almost all of those finding a 20% or better improvement in scores. No calculus student of mine has ever failed to improve by at least 10%. Forget the average tutor, and talk to me about what I do differently! I have complete mastery of the material and excel at producing improvement quickly and permanently.

I am certified as a highly qualified professional teacher of common core math. I have also tutored common core math and physics since the inception of the new standards. I am very comfortable with the common core content and teach it to the individual student.

Juan teaches and tutors both lower level and advanced geometry students. He has experience with multiple ability levels and has worked with both gifted students and students with learning and math difficulties, and has helped students achieve improvement of over 20% on test scores. Parents are generally surprised at how quickly their students can improve over previous test scores.

Juan has been tutoring at various levels of education and has shown a consistent record of improvement of between 10% and 20% on standardized tests. When he took the GRE test, he scored an 800 on the math portion, and his studies show that he has mastered all areas of math required for the GRE.

I cater to elite level students and struggling students alike. My clients tend to be very discerning clients who feel that their child's education and future comes before anything else. The PSAT is a solid predictor of SAT and ACT performance, so we should shore up that test as soon as possible. I recommend at least 1 session per week, but for elite level grades, 2 sessions per week may be necessary. Each student is unique, so there is no way to predict whether single sessions or multiple sessions will be necessary. Let's chat! I tutor for every math Regents and AP math test, as well as Regents and AP physics. All of my students have achieved improvement by over 10%, which is double the national average of 5% improvement after tutoring. FYI, "REGENTS" tutoring is too generic, as there are many, many regents in a wide variety of subjects. I only tutor math and physics.
SAT Math

Juan has found consistent results in tutoring for SAT math, with all of his students except one over the course of a 24 year career improving their scores over 10%, and most improving by over 20% over a previous test. He has working and complete knowledge in all areas of high school math, and has been a teacher and tutor since 2001.
SSAT

Juan has tutored for the SSAT and SHSAT math sections with great success. He has found that even middle schoolers can increase not just their math skills, but their level of thinking, to the point where they are able to solve abstract problems on their own and, in particular, they are able to solve the math problems found in their standardized tests. The SSAT is a great predictor for the SAT and ACT, so we should get that shored up as soon as possible.
Trigonometry

Juan has a great deal of experience working with trigonometric functions at the higher levels of math and science, and has been tutoring trigonometry and related subjects since 2001 with great success. All students have improved by 10% or better over previous test scores, and most have improved by over 20%.

Knowledgeable, wth deep understanding of subject

My children used Juan R as both teacher and tutor over the last few months. In school, they were a few grades ahead, and did not have a teacher to teach them the online curriculum that they do through Johns Hopkins CTY program. Now that their school has hired a teacher to support them, we will not be using his help. The children really enjoyed working with him, and he was able to immediately dive in and help them with any stuck problem and understanding. He was also extremely helpful in teaching them good problem solving habits and in how to keep track of their work/class notes digitally so that they have a paperless paper trail to review issues. He was also able to pinpoint what behaviors were causing repeated errors. So unequivocally recommend.

Game changer

Juan helped my son received a 98% on his AP physics test. The week prior having received a 64%, only after two tutoring sessions.
