I have recently retired after teaching elementary school for 34 years. This includes 27 years of classroom teaching, 4 years of AIS math teaching, and 3 years of enrichment math and science teaching. I would now like to put my vast experience to use by tutoring young Elementary and Jr. High level students in math, science, reading, writing, spelling, social studies, study habits and any other school related subject that a student may need assistance. I have taught overseas for 4 years, 2 years in Scotland and 2 years in England. This overseas teaching experience plus my other years of teaching offer a vast amount of background knowledge. My 34 years of teaching have brought me into contact with many types of students with many types of learning disabilities. As a classroom teacher, I know that not all students learn the same way and the tutoring program a child receives should be tailored to their specific learning style. I will meet with your child and design a program that will meet their specific needs to make positive steps toward learning. I would be glad to share my resume and references with any parent that requests these documents via email. I am available any week day at any time that works best for the parents and student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a permanent NYS teaching certificate in grades K-6.
I have a strong understanding of mathematics. I have a total of 4 years experience teaching AIS math plus all the years of classroom teaching of math for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. I will use multiple strategies to help a student improve their math skills. I know from my teaching experience that not everyone learns the same way and I will create strategies for a student that are specific to their learning style. I am also familiar with the current NYS common core standards in mathematics for elementary school can help a student prepare for the NYS math testing.
I have taught reading to students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 for most of my teaching career. I would be able to help students develop strategies and skills to improve reading comprehension.
