About Jason

Bio

Hi, I'm Jason. I have taught English as a Second Language for New York schools and have tutored students of all ages and English competency levels for more than twelve years. My Bachelor's degree is in Inter-Arts from San Francisco State University. I myself was a second-language learner in Germany, and the challenges and thrills of learning another language are a special part of my life.

What do I love about tutoring? Every student is different. Some language schools' methods may be better than others, but the most productive and enjoyable (and those two qualities are absolutely related!) method of teaching is direct tutoring.

Years of trial and error have made me refine and improve my methods of teaching any student from any language background.

I encourage interaction as much as possible, so that I can meet the specific needs of every individual student. Suggestions of material or areas to concentrate on are most welcome. I am easy to reach and always respond as immediately as possible to any form of contact.

Art Theory

Art Theory

My Art Theory qualifications relate technically to the Bachelor's Degree I received from San Francisco State University in the field of Interdisciplinary Studies of Creative Arts. I also partially completed a Master's program at Hunter College, New York, for teaching art to elementary school students. These programs entailed demonstrating a knowledge and practical use of visual art techniques such as paint, drawing, lithography, photography, and animation, as well as theoretical constructs and schools of art (DaDa, cubism, impressionism, and the myriad of historical "-ism"s related to time and place of trending art fashion). I was fortunate to have excellent professors who elevated art into a thought process beyond the technical, and I wish to impart the same stimulation in my own students to constantly grow and learn.
Drawing

Drawing

I have been hired to draw and paint numerous subjects and themes, with clients ranging from music outlets to high-end department stores to magazines. I was a member of The Salmagundi Club, NYC, where I had multiple exhibitions and was honored with the Junior Scholarship Award. I have also taught children drawing techniques at The Action Center, and after-school program in Far Rockaway, New York.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL for more than ten years in various New York schools for all age and skill levels, as well as standardized tests and areas of Business English and Pronunciation. I also have a strong art background and a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts, as well as a love of writing and music. I love to work with students for their individual needs and hope to hear from you!
Painting

Painting

After earning my BA degree from San Francisco State University and developing my portfolio, I moved to New York and worked for ten years as an artist for Tower Records. This segued into a career in windows/visuals for New York department stores such as Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, and many other stores, restaurants, and private commissions, as well as magazine covers and T-shirt designs. In San Francisco, New York, and Santa Barbara I have had exhibitions at prestigious galleries and have been commissioned to paint many subjects and themes. I also taught children art techniques for The Action Center, an after-school program in New York.
