Hello, I'm Ben! I have recently graduated from U.B. with a master's in chemistry, specifically focusing on material sciences, inorganic chemistry, and photophysical analysis. I performed research on quantum dot semiconductors and have gained a thorough understanding of fundamental chemical and physical interactions. For the 4 years that I was pursuing the degree (2022-2026) I taught CHE101 and CHE102 as a teaching assistant and lab instructor. As a teaching assistant I would review weekly lessons and answer any questions, as well as provide 2 hours of office hours per week, in which students from my class, or others, could ask for assistance and clarification. Students were often in their first couple semesters of college, though I did have students ranging up to 90+ credits as well.

I believe my best teaching skill is breaking complex concepts down to digestible parts, and guiding students to put the parts together. To help a student, I would first ask questions to diagnose what misunderstanding they might have, and work from basic principles of chemistry to fill in any knowledge or conceptual gaps. I would then ask them to describe the concept to me in their own words, and correct any misused verbiage, or explanations. A student teaching concepts, especially complex ones, with a knowledgeable listener is a great way to recognize what a student may be missing or misunderstanding!

If the student has a firm grasp on the concept but is struggling with memorization or problem solving, I would tailor the learning to developing experience with how to remember terminology, diagnose problems, and approach a solution after the problem is understood.

My goal is to help the student understand the material and prepare for any evaluations. I'm happy to tune lesson plans and tutoring approaches to fit any individual, and to integrate suggestions! I aim to be approachable and malleable in scheduling. Feel free to reach out at any time and I should be able to respond quickly!

Physical Science

Physical Science

I have taken multiple classes involving thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and physical chemistry. I have been a TA for CHE102 for 3 semesters, and CHE101 for 5, including running labs. CHE102 lessons include an in depth discussion on enthalpy, entropy, ideal gas (including derivation from the kinetic theory of gasses.)
