Hi, my name is Niko and it's a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with you! I am a former middle school English teacher in Baltimore City schools who has a passion for educational equity both inside and outside of the classroom.
My journey in education began when I was in the first grade. My first grade teacher, Mrs. Till, inspired me to become a teacher through her command, grace, and care. My commitment to equity and equity in education has roots just as deep. It was always a priority as a teacher that all students felt they were able to do their best in my classroom, and I apply the same philosophy to other relationships in my life.
I attended the University at Buffalo for my undergraduate degree in English and minored in education (I also received a creative writing certificate). I know a little bit about resilience in the pursuit of academic success and not just in my K12 experience. During the middle of my junior year in college, I took a leave of absence for a year and a half and when I returned the pandemic began during the middle of my spring semester. When I returned I finished my degree requirements and then went on to earn my masters degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University through the City Teaching Alliance (formerly Urban Teachers) teacher preparation program.
I have the knowledge, experience, and credentials to help students with the subject I love the most. English language arts is not only vital to how and what we understand about others, but how and what we understand about ourselves. It is a subject which is just as crucial now as it ever as been. I hope you will join me on this journey!
