Hi! I’m a 25-year-old graduate from St. Bonaventure University. At the university, I majored in Journalism, excelling in Strategic Writing and Professional Writing courses. Due to my excellent performance in these courses, my professor selected me as a student tutor. As a tutor, I helped explain the instructor’s expectations as well as relay a one-on-one teaching method that helped the student better understand the material.
Though my tutoring experience is minimal, I believe that I can translate my advanced English Language Arts expertise with potential students. In my experiences, I have written articles from many online publications, including: the Bona Venture student newspaper, Trainwreck Sports and EnforceTheSport websites. My knowledge of writing style will benefit students who need help with writing papers, comprehending assigned readings and understanding grammatical errors as well as story structure.
While I prefer a one-on-one approach, I have no issue tutoring groups of students of all different ages. I believe that the best way to teach students is to be understanding and approachable. If a student struggles in a topic, it’s possible that they’re intimidated by the instructor or subject matter. Also, I believe in meeting the student where they’re at, meaning that I have to see how well they’re understanding concepts and finding ways to help them maximize their potential.
