Hi, I’m Rafat. I studied in one of the most prestigious schools in England, the Manchester Grammar School (MGS), where I left with GCSE and A-level qualifications, notably in biology, chemistry, and maths. I moved from England to America for both personal and professional reasons, turning down a medical offer from London to pursue a computer science BS at the University at Buffalo.
I grew up in a low income area, but I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship to attend MGS, and I was one of few in my area to ever attend a good school. Because of my background, in the midst of lockdown, I turned to tutoring, as many kids in the public school system were receiving an inadequate remote education, and I saw tutoring as a way to give back to my community. I have had 2 years of tutoring experience, and another year a little while before that, tutoring mainly in maths. I have tutored students of all ages, from 8 to 18, both in person and remotely; however, I prefer students who are more mature, and serious about their learning, as I prefer to tutor remotely. My best students, in terms of progress, have always been students with an affinity to learn, I teach best when a student has a good foundation of basic understanding, and I can use that foundation to make them grow exponentially.
I excel in any field of maths, and I am able to tutor maths at an undergraduate level, although I understand some collage students aren’t comfortable with their tutor also being a peer. I tutor best when given a topic to base the lesson around, such as if a student needed help with a chapter or sub chapter of a textbook.
