Hi, I’m Aliya! I’m currently a medical student at Jacobs School of Medicine. I graduated summa cum laude from UB with a degree in Biological Sciences and minor in Chemistry. I had received a Presidential Scholarship, recipient of the McCroskey fellowship, and excellence in Organic Chemistry Award. Hi, I’m Aliya! I’m currently a medical student at Jacobs School of Medicine. I graduated summa cum laude from UB with a degree in Biological Sciences and minor in Chemistry. I had received a Presidential Scholarship, recipient of the McCroskey fellowship, and excellence in Organic Chemistry Award. I have also pursued a Departmental Honors project within the Biological Sciences. I have participated in many research projects within the past four years, ranging from examining the effect of graphene on actin to axonal transport.
I’ve noticed that the classes I’ve gained the most from were taught by professors who went above and beyond to help whoever needed it. I try to incorporate this into my approach as a tutor and do everything I can to help further the understanding of others. I’ve created a lesson plan that starts with a basic introduction to the concepts involved followed by time to do practice examples together as well as separately. However, I am open to adjusting this method based on individual needs and have done so in the past.
I have been tutoring for 4 and a half years. I have been an undergraduate teaching assistant at University at Buffalo since 2021. I was a teaching assistant for the fall semester in the lab component of Evolutionary Biology. I worked directly with a group of 20 students to guide them through important concepts they needed to learn for the lab. I provided direct assistance with the material through office hours as well to ensure no one fell behind. I have also tutored second graders in reading comprehension and was also a teaching assistant for Genetics at University at Buffalo for this upcoming semester. I was also a teaching assistant for the Gifted Math Program, where I assist 8th graders in learning algebra. I want to help as many students as possible, so I appreciate suggestions from students or parents. I am readily available and respond promptly.
