My name is Santiago and I am a graduate from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Guitar Performance achieving Summa Cum Laude. My focus is playing jazz, blues, bossa nova, finger style guitar, and I enjoy studying musical concepts such as theory and improvisation. With years of experience teaching at various music schools, delivering 1 on 1 personalized lessons in various genres as well as teaching group classes to students of all ages, I am easy to get along with and work hard to deliver high quality music education, as was taught to me. My youngest students are 6 years old, I teach various middle and high school aged students, and teach many adults of all ages and skill levels as well. My strengths as a music teacher include a strong ability to teach music theory step by step, I am a patient teacher, and I appreciate and teach all styles of music.

Studying with me starts by understanding where you are at and what your musical goals are. Some goals may be wanting to understand what is going on within the music and learning music theory, learning genre specific improvisation language, songwriting techniques and knowledge, fretboard mastery, etc.
Along the way I will help adjust your technique to help your chords, scales, improvisation, etc. come easier, feel comfortable, and sound better. I will share all of the practice exercises that have helped me with concepts such as phrasing, improvisation, learning the fretboard, hearing the different qualities of chords and scales, etc., and make you a well rounded musician.
Lessons are as serious as you want them to be depending on your musical goals.
Let's get better at playing the guitar!

General Music

My name is Santiago and I am currently finishing school at Berklee Online as a Guitar Performance Major with a focus on blues and jazz. I hold a 4.0 GPA with a scholarship because I truly love playing the guitar and all things music. I currently teach at a private music school in NY and have years of 1 on 1 teaching experience. Some of my strengths as a music teacher include a strong ability to teach music theory step by step, I am a patient teacher, and I appreciate and teach many genres of music as well as finger style guitar playing. I have been studying blues for many years and have a strong understanding of many classic styles such as T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, BB King, Clapton, Hendrix, Jazz Blues and many more. I find that learning solo's from our inspirations is one of the best ways to learn the language of the music you love. Being able to play, study, and reinterpret music from our inspirations will make you a better musician. Most recently I have been studying jazz for the past 2 years and find it absolutely fascinating. I know that jazz will be a lifetime study for me as I love this genre, and I am excited to share the foundations and gems I've learned with anyone interested. Some of my jazz inspirations include Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Grant Green, John Scofield, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis. I consider myself a serious musician and I would be thrilled to share a passion for music with anyone interested to talk and work together.

I have a strong musical understanding that I translate to different instruments which allows me to teach piano, bass, ukulele, and the charango. The guitar is my main instrument but musicians learn from all sorts of instrumentalists, for example, I have recently translated a saxophone solo from Charlie Parker on his song, "Blues For Alice". I consider myself a serious musician and I would be thrilled to share a passion for music with anyone interested to talk and work together.
