Hi I'm Hannah. I graduated from Oberlin and Harvard Law School. After being a trial attorney for many years, I pivoted and have been helping students get into college and grad school for the past five years.

Law to college application assistance may seem like a strange path, but these roles have something important in common- helping people tell their stories. Applying to school is one of the few times in our lives we are asked to create a compelling portrait of ourselves. It's uncomfortable, and not something we're socialized to do. What I love about this work is supporting applicants in finding their stories and exploring their uniqueness.

I'll be there every step of the way from structured brainstorming to outlining to drafting to the painstaking but crucial work of editing. We work until the students have an essay they can be proud of. Students often find that during this process, they become better writers, which is a gratifying bonus.

Applications aren't just personal statements, and I take a wholistic approach with each student. I assist on supplemental essays and activity lists for undergrad and resumes for grad schools. The student and I work to make sure their application reflects the many facets of who they are but still presents a cohesive application narrative. I also love working with students to build their school lists. There are so many schools out there that might be a great fit, and I'm very experienced at helping students distill what it is they want from a school and making appropriate suggestions.

Every student has a different approach to learning and I take that seriously. We start by talking about how they like to get feedback. Sometimes I'll make suggestions on an essay and they can run with it. Other times, we go sentence by sentence until an essay is done.

In addition to helping students with their applications, I teach at a law school and assist at a college prep program. This helps me stay up to date on what schools are looking for and meet students where they're at.

College Counseling

College Counseling

I've worked with students starting anywhere from 9th grade through senior year and have helped guide them to college acceptance and decision. That means brainstorming and helping students craft their application essay, standardized test prep. I've also helped on the actual application itself. I've helped students create resumed that highlight the work they've done and find scholarships that they qualify for. I've even helped students research colleges and find ones they might never have thought of! I received a great deal of my training as a mentor for Scholar Match. I've also worked with students applying to graduate school including medical, law, social work and PhD programs.

Proofreading

Proofreading

I studied at Oberlin and then Harvard Law School. I worked as an attorney for five years writing a variety of detailed motions and briefs. For the past several years I've been a freelance tutor and editor and am happy to help make sure your writing is in top shape.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a former actor and trial attorney I have plenty of experience with public speaking. I've done over 50 trials, and appeared in multiple stage productions. I know how scary public speaking can be, and I know how to help you prepare for it. While in law school, I helped train other student attorneys prepare for prison disciplinary or court hearings in which the student's public speaking skill could have a huge impact on someone else's life. I helped them prepare what they were going to say, how they were going to say it, and how to deal with unpredictable situations.

A huge help!

Hannah's help with my college essays has been a godsend during an incredibly stressful time. I wouldn't say the process became a walk in the park or anything, but it definitely takes a lot of the pressure off knowing she has my back! My applications are much stronger now, and not only that, her coaching has helped me become a better writer.

She definitely knew what she was talking about

She helped me come up with an outline when I was really stuck. I didn't quite know what to pay attention to but she broke it down for me. We just started but she definitely is knowledgeable about college applications.
