Bio

Kahdeem J. is a 26 year old American artist working with photography, video, and performance art, exploring the nuances of the multilayered black experience and the impact of cultural dismemberment. Through his work he plans to fill that void by finding what connects us, and making the black experience a normalized one while combating prejudice, nihilism, and social norms.

Kahdeem J. is a 26 year old American artist working with photography, video, and performance art, exploring the nuances of the multilayered black experience and the impact of cultural dismemberment. Through his work he plans to fill that void by finding what connects us, and making the black experience a normalized one while combating prejudice, nihilism, and social norms.

Kahdeem has been published in Vogue Magazine (2020) for Hope : A Special issue, Musee Magazine (2020) Issue 24: Identity . He won 1st place in the Soho Photo Gallery National Competition (2020) He is also a Gordon Parks Scholarship recipient (2018). Participating in numerous group exhibitions, such as Come together, Right Now : The Art of Gathering (2020) at the Chrysler Museum of Art, Interlude his online BFA Thesis Show (2020). Black in Time (2020) and Re:rooted (2019) (Art direction for ABSTRACTD Youth) all of which were shown at the Fashion Institute’s Pomerantz gallery; Photofeast Pin Up (2019) at School of Visual Arts; Black Mirror: Reimaging Reality hosted by Movers & Shakers NYC x Wallplay (2019) at 325 Canal st Gallery; No Commission by Dean Collection (2018) at The Faena Forum; Time Bomb (2018) at The Watermill Foundation; People's Choice Grand Salon Show (2018) at the Greenpoint Gallery. Kahdeem has received his BFA in Photography and minoring in Art History (2020) from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. (FIT).
