Hello! My name is Ridge B. and I'm a senior in the Honors College at Belmont University! My major is in English with an emphasis in writing and I'm on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude in the Spring of 2021. After graduation, I hope to attend Vanderbilt for Law School.
Nothing has given me more opportunities in life than honing my ability to write. I see writing as the most important part of any high school students' college application. My college admissions essay was the reason for both my undergraduate scholarship and my admission to Belmont's Honors College. Additionally, it was my writing that earned me a nomination for the English Department's Creative Writing award, and landed me a job as a journalist for Nashville-based arts publication, Music Mecca.
For me, writing is more than just what's required for class--it's a form of art. I believe strong writing skills offer improvement in all coursework, not just language arts. I truly believe anyone can write well, all they need is for someone to push to them in the right direction! My realization of writing as a tool for self-expression did not come independently, rather it was through superb, personalized instruction from my university faculty and mentors. I would not be the writer I am today without the patience and guidance of my teachers. I think that's what's motivated me to be a tutor on Wyzant's platform: in hopes of being that figure for someone else.
It was not too long ago I was enduring the college admissions process myself. As institutions shift away from requiring standardized test scores, I believe writing to be more important now than ever. As your teacher, I'll help you hone your ability to think critically, write critically, and become a better communicator. These goals can take the form of writing academically, non-academically, and public speaking--all areas in which I have earned top grades during my time at Belmont and writing for various publications around Nashville.
