I have a variety of talents that I am fortunate enough to share with my students and hopefully find synergies. I'm lucky to be moderately good at what I like, which is video editing, videography, writing, acting, actor coaching for film, television and theatre, and other talents such as singing, cartooning, and illustration.

I have a variety of talents that I am fortunate enough to share with my students and hopefully find synergies. I'm lucky to be moderately good at what I like, which is video editing, videography, writing, acting, actor coaching for film, television and theatre, and other talents such as singing, cartooning, and illustration.

There's a whole lot I don't know. But, by sharing experience, I'm able to learn how my students best absorb information. I think a huge part of teaching is presence, silencing our inner critics and listening to our students. Then, utilizing our raw talent and skills to communicate creative problem solving in a way our students will understand.

I am eager to spread my love of Performance, Media, and Film to others. I don't want to "duplicate myself;" this is about finding you.

You may be able to get a sense of my writing style here. While tools like Grammarly and Spell Checkers may assist us well, I find the best way to teach writing is to JUST WRITE, then go back to touch up later.

My greatest strength lies in our revision and editing processes. Like with video, it's a lot easier for me to improve your existing ideas than to come up with original ones. Creativity sometimes lies in the willingness to try alternate approaches to problems. We don't have to BE Mark Twain, Aldous Huxley or Stephen King, but we should speak with our own voice of authenticity. If fame, fortune, and reputation come with it, then great. If not, at least you have no regrets. I'll show you how to pull your raw voice from deep within, then embrace whatever you've found with a Cosmic Yes, taking your work in a new direction.

That said, I won't be writing your papers, editing your videos, or acting for you. I can suggest improvements, and show you guidelines. While formal writing, for example, has some guidelines, informal writing should be structured too; I encourage my students to improvise within this structure. I'll teach you writing for almost any medium: journalism, nonfiction, scriptwriting, press releases, ho

Film

Film

After receiving an AB in Film Studies in 2005, I jumped right into the industry, my first gig editing a feature film shot in St. Louis. Since then, I have done work in Milwaukee, Atlanta, and New York City, still passionately following the mantra that helping my clients develop a vision usually ends in a product much better than they ever thought possible. Almost everyone’s biggest fear is regret, and what I don't want is any thoughts of ’I should have/would have/could have done this, ’ leaving a client unsatisfied with the result.
Theater

Theater

After studying Acting at Wash U, Shakespeare at the Globe in London, and Practical Aesthetics at Atlantic Acting School, I have appeared in several established and world-premiere theatrical productions. I also have extensive on-screen experience, whether a background extra or featured role. My main teaching technique focuses on either Gister or Mamet, but I also encourage voice, movement, scene study, and Alexander Technique, among other practices. These are disciplines I practice myself, too! It's a process, and it’s a journey--you can never learn ’too much’ in the field of Acting.
Video Production

Video Production

I have extensive experience with post-production, but I am great during other phases. I've served as a consultant in development, participated in pre-production storyboarding, have extensive behind-the-camera experience, am familiar with good framing and composition techniques, not to mention the ability to recognize a strong image when it's found. With sound comes the challenge of making it engaging; if you can watch an entire video without audio and tell me what's it's about, or listen to just audio with no image and do the same, then you have a powerful project. Too much contend is cranked out today with heavy reliance on the melding of both; our goal is to tell a story with each independently.
Writing

Writing

I have experience writing formal essays in an academic background, some research essays, some quite personal. I also have a good deal of experience in the Journalistic, Playwriting and Screenwriting styles, having worked in the film, video and media industries for so long. I keep a blog on linked on, Facebook, and other sites. I feel I’m uniquely qualified to teach almost any style of writing, as the purpose is to find the narrative thread whether the point is to tell a story or not. Even a press release, PSA, or advertisement tells a story. Writing has been easy for me, but the revisions and editing processes are my biggest strengths. Sitting down with your student, I’ll let them know that there are no real secrets, but I can give tips and pointers to help strengthen their work and keep the point of the piece clear and concise. An expanded vocabulary is not necessary; many formally written books do not use uncommon words in modern parlance, making the writing more accessible and fun to read for a much broader audience. This can be taught, but teaching someone to be ‘a good writer’ takes time, personal development and evolution of thought processes on the part of the student. Even if raw talent is there or no talent, there can be a lot of fun to be had, whether it’s the ‘slash and burn’ less is more approach, or the ‘let’s make the reader feel really smart’ approach, or some combination of both.

Daniel had answers to all my questions

I am just getting into video after a career in stills. I have a lot of knowledge about photoshop, but I really needed help with Final Cut Pro. I'm so glad I found Daniel. Daniel pointed out many useful attributes of Final Cut Pro and made sure I understood what he was telling me. He's an excellent teacher. I couldn't be happier with the results of our session. Very excited to put Daniel's suggestions to use today!

Great suggestions

In our conversation Daniel was able to quickly grasp what I was trying to accomplish and was able to make a couple of recommendations that I think will be very helpful. He was attentive and experienced.

Daniel and I worked on editing footage from 2 short short films in Premier Pro. We went over Auto Save, Importing and exporting, audio, uploading to Vimeo, as well as, other important issues with Adobe Premier. It was a pleasure to work with Daniel-we managed to complete the project and I am extremely grateful for his help.
