I have been teaching music for over 20 years. I have three degrees in the French horn (BFA, MA, and DMA), extensive piano teaching experience for ages 5-adult (including having been adjunct piano faculty at NYU), and Theory teaching experience including AP.

As a Music Theory teacher I've prepared students for the AP Music Theory Exam, prepared high school students for college entrance exams, have tutored current college students (in theory and ear training), and have prepared students of all ages for ABRSM and RCM musicianship/theory/ear training exams.

As a French horn teacher I have prepared many students for local honor band auditions, Royal Conservatory Performance Exams (my students have all scored 90 or higher, two have been selected to perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall), college auditions (including recording arts supplements), and summer camp auditions. I've also had great fun working with adults who have returned to the instrument. I'm also more than happy to work with students on their school band music and other assignments.

As a piano teacher I've worked with students age 5-adult, skill levels, and in a variety of styles. I've also helped prepare college students for piano class exams.

I have always had a passion for teaching music. I strongly believe that a well-rounded education includes music, that learning music is good for both the brain and the heart. While I am very proud of my higher achieving students, I am just as proud of my students who simply love music and know they will always find a place for it in their lives. I also enjoy working with adult learners, it's never too late to learn!

Very patient and kind teacher

Amanda is an incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and kind teacher. My child has a disability and often struggles with understanding abstract concepts, but thanks to Amanda's teaching, he has started to grasp them.

excellent tutor

My daughter has learned a lot about music theory from Amanda T, who not only knows the subject matter, but also a lot about the exam itself. She is an excellent tutor!

Very effective and supportive tutor!

Amanda is extremely positive and supportive. Music theory is a challenging subject, and it is good to have someone with so much experience and intelligence as a guide.

The best music teacher!

My daughter has been taking music theory lessons with Amanda. It has been a wonderful experience, Amanda is a very nice and supportive teacher, she is very patient with students. She identified what my daughter needs to work on and gives step by step guidance each week. My daughter told me that she probably learns a lot more music theory from Amanda than from all her previous years of music learning. I highly recommend Amanda to anyone who wants to get a good foundation of music theory. It will help you a long way in your music journey!

Excellent tutor!

Amanda helped me understand where I was messing up in my singing (AP music theory) and gave me great tips that are already helping me improve after just one session! Highly recommend!

Amanda was great

Amanda was able to work with Dominic and showed interest in what he has learned. She really made an impression on Dominic. I look forward to continuing the tutoring.

Incredibly Helpful

I'm a beginner piano player and Amanda has been a great teacher for me. She provides teaching materials that we walk through together during our lessons, gives me very specific things to work on each week, and tailors the learning to things I need/want to work on. In working with her for a few weeks I feel that I've already more than doubled my piano skills compared to when I was teaching myself. I don't think I could have found a better teacher to help me get to where I want to be with the piano.
