Bio

I grew up as a Hebrew speaker in the United States and have several years of tutoring and teaching experience from preschoolers to adults. My approach with children is generally play, song, and movement based for Modern Hebrew. I am well versed in Judaic studies and tutor prayer Hebrew and Torah for Bar/Bat Mitzvah as well. My graduate work looks at Jewish and Irish theatrical traditions with a particular emphasis on national culture and language revival movements.

I am currently completing my dissertation and teaching dramatic and children's literature and public speaking at Brooklyn College. I also serve as a writing tutor for graduate-level students and have taught composition courses in the past. As a teacher I am most concerned with helping my students find connections within the disparate things they are learning, thus my literature classes are always partly history classes and my classes, as a whole, mix humanities and social engagement.

I grew up speaking Hebrew in a dual-language household. I am able to help students with an overall understanding of the language and given my comfort in both Hebrew and English, I am particularly suited to helping students understand the language beyond literal translation. I have extensive experience teaching a broad range of ages and different approaches for young children, preteens and teens and adults.

I have taught Public Speaking for the last six years and am especially good at helping students with flow and structure and support for arguments. I currently teach children's literature at the college level to education majors and have previously taught various other literature-based courses.

I am a theatre historian, an area which touches on many aspects of history - social, economic, political and cultural. My view of engaging with history is to make connections and narratives that link to material a student already knows and informs their understanding of the present.

I am interested in students of all ages looking to take on a new hobby,
