Hello! I have been a working artist for over 15 years as well as an experienced teacher in various areas both in classroom settings as well as one on one. I have an MFA in sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and my practice has long included drawing, performance, and video making as well. I've taught extensively at the college level at both SAIC and the University of South Florida. Past classes I've taught have been focused on sculpture, 2D design, intro to art, art appreciation, drawing, performance, sound, and video. I have worked with a wide range of skill levels from introductory to graduate and with both art majors and non art majors. I've had a long ongoing engagement with philosophy, art history, art theory, and literary theory so am available to help develop any writings and ideas a student may have in these areas. Teaching is very rewarding for me and it's a way to give back the many amazing things past mentors have taught me.I believe art is not just about skill but also a way of thinking and seeing the world in new and interesting ways and one on one critiques, discussions, and readings can be invaluable supplements as an artist develops their skills.
I have excellent reading comprehension skills and am a meticulous proofreader. I have many years of experience helping students craft and edit artist statements and other art-related writings. I also have extensive experience mentoring undergraduates through the often daunting process of applying to graduate school with a high rate of success.
