I am currently a 12th grade Social Studies teacher in the NYC Department of Education. Throughout my time in school, I've always found that when a topic is structured and properly explained, I grasped the content best. I aim to ensure your child has the same experience

I graduated cum laude from SUNY New Paltz with a double major in History and Black Studies and a double minor in Psychology and Disaster Studies in 3.5 years. I hold a Post-Bacc in Social Studies from Queens College and a Masters in Special Education from SUNY Empire State College.

Since I have been legally able to work, I have had the pleasure of working with students in a variety of instruction, whether it be one-on-one or in large groups. In addition, the population of students I've worked with are extremely diverse, ranging from elementary-aged students that required early intervention services for learning disabilities all the way up to high school students that are preparing for the college admissions process.

I understand that writing may be difficult for some students; it's hard to get all of your thoughts and ideas into neat, organized paragraphs. Throughout my time as a student and teacher, I have developed methods that help structure essays to the liking of both the student and their teacher. Together, we can help formulate your ideas from theory to page.

In my current job, we focus on Regents related to English, Global History and American History, I have developed techniques to break down the exam itself and ensure that the student is prepared for an exam. In my classroom, we use a variety of methods and resources to further improve skills. With these tools, I can help ensure that your child is prepared for the Regents, no matter the grade.

I want your tutoring experience to be as nurturing and constructive as possible. That being said, I welcome any resources or suggestions that students or parents wish to provide. I will always provide a timely response. Feel free to contact me or to schedule a session.

ADHD

ADHD

In my current role as a Special Education teacher, I have had experience creating developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students of all need levels. Typically, many of my students struggle with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorders, so I have a litany of experience ensuring that the content is modified in a way that makes learning more accessible. With your learner, I will ensure we create as authentic of a learning experience as possible.
African American Studies

African American Studies

I have a BA in Black Studies from SUNY New Paltz. The BA program consists of courses from several distinct cores, such as Socioeconomic, Historical and Political. A major focus of my studies was on the experience of the African Diaspora in the United States, as it pertained to education and the education system. I strongly believe that my qualifications in African American Studies would be a fine addition to the tutoring pool.
American History

American History

Having majored in History and currently teaching at the secondary level, I have a deep knowledge of American history and extensive experience with essay writing. Assuming that you are in a standardized test-bearing class, it is a safe bet that you will have future essays. That being said, I can ensure your goals in the class are met.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

While I currently teach at the high school level, I have the qualifications to, and have experience in, teaching elementary school-level content. Prior to my current position, I worked in a supplementary summer camp setting, where students between the ages of 5-9 spent the majority of the day reviewing reading and math concepts from the previous school year to avoid learning loss. In addition, as of this year, my New York State license in Students with Disabilities enables me to work at all grade levels, including K-6.
Grammar

Grammar

As a Social Studies teacher, grammar is a cornerstone of my instruction. Understanding the intricacies of grammar are extremely important not only for school, but for the modern workforce. Ensuring that proper grammar is used is imperative to my instruction.
Homeschool

Homeschool

As a NYS licensed Special Education teacher, I am experienced in differentiating instruction for all learners. This includes individualizing instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Homeschoolers would benefit from a comprehensive, individualized educational experience.
Proofreading

Proofreading

As a middle school teacher, I constantly stress the importance of proofreading to my students. That being said, I work with my students to develop small tricks that help weed out inconsistencies and errors in their writing. These small tricks may be the vital difference between a passing and failing grade.
Regents

Regents

I have experience at the Regents level, specifically in English, Global History and United States History. Currently, I am teaching an accelerated eighth grade class and preparing them for the upcoming United States History Regents in June. I believe that my qualifications regarding the dichotomy of the multiple choice and DBQs mix well with my subject area's reliance on essays and what exactly scorers are looking for.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

The SAT can be an extremely stressful factor in a student's life. However, by reviewing specific strategies, we can find simple ways to increase your Reading score and impress potential colleges. No stress needed!
SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

I have 7 years of experience as an educator in New York City, of which many of those years have included helping students to prepare for admission to Standardized High Schools. From rapid fire multiple choice practice to reinforcing course content, I have an impressive record of getting students into their desired schools, specifically Bronx Science and Brooklyn Latin. Much of my practice is focused on time management and context clues within the questions themselves.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have experience differentiating and scaffolding lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners. In addition, I expect to complete my Masters of Education in Special Education by the end of July. Also, I have completed nearly all of the requirements for Initial Certification in SWD 7-12 (this includes examinations).
United States History

United States History

I have taught United States History at the high school level for the last 5 years. My course covers the nation's history as a survey, detailing the origins of the colonies to the modern day. I am especially adept at preparing students for standardized exams, namely essays, as they pertain to United States History. In addition, I emphasize the use of evidence and debate when it comes to discussing issues in American History.
