I have been a math teacher and English teacher since 1995, focusing on math. I have tutored students individually throughout that time. I believe each person constructs meaning out of the world and individual discussion helps people make sense of what they see and experience. I have been a math teacher and English teacher since 1995, focusing on math. I have tutored students individually throughout that time. I believe each person constructs meaning out of the world and individual discussion helps people make sense of what they see and experience. I decided to focus on teaching math because I have also struggled with math in the past and so understand what kinds of trouble other people might experience, and because it is so essential in our modern world to understand graphs and statistics.

I have worked with middle and high school students as a classroom teacher, a tutor and doing SAT Prep. I have also done tutoring work in calculus with not only high school students, but also college students.

I am most talented in individually analyzing why someone is struggling in a particular area and finding ways to change and expand their understanding. I have worked with both advanced and struggling students and have helped them all.

In recent years, I have spent huge amounts of time analyzing the new Common Core Regents Exams and requirements. My students have made huge progress in passing the Algebra I Regents. I can predict a number of topics that are likely to show up and the format in which they will appear and share that information with you. I have also analyzed the newer Geometry and Algebra II Exams, but since they are so new, I have fewer results to back up my understanding.

I love teaching especially in the individual situations of a tutoring experience and I know that I can help you understand math better and succeed in both class and on any exams you may need to take. I can't wait to get to know you and your needs and help you succeed. Let me know what you're interested in and what your schedule is.

Common Core

I have spent the last five years understanding the Common Core curriculum in New York State, including analyzing both the exam itself and the individual test results at my school. I can predict many of the topics and questions likely to be on the Algebra I Exam and should be able to do the same with Geometry and Algebra II once there are more examples of the tests available. I have developed individual curriculum and problems for students to address Common Core topics and improved the pass rate at my school by 40% the first year I joined the faculty. The rate continued to improve every year I worked there though not as dramatically.

Patient and easygoing

Connected well with my kid and walked them through an SHSAT test, focusing on techniques and concepts for math and English. Very pleased, and my kid is eager to have more classes.

Knowledgeable and engaging tutor

Susan was easy for my temperamental teen to get along with. She connected well with her and got her excited about math for the first time in forever. I can’t thank Susan enough for helping our daughter feel connected to math. Our teen is going to go to class feeling like she can get the job done instead of feeling insecure and afraid. Thanks Susan.
