My world has always revolved around music. When I was 10 years old, my parents purchased a brand new saxophone and enrolled me in a saxophone class that changed my life. Music became my world that exhilarated and calmed me at the same time. My ability to easily sight read music and my insatiable curiosity and eagerness allowed me to learn different instruments (alto sax, bass guitar, piano, upright bass) and explore various genres of music (classic rock, jazz, ska, reggae, funk, show tunes). I have performed at the famous Whiskey A Go Go, El Rey Theatre, and other large venues in Los Angeles. My jazz band performed at Witzend, an esteemed music venue on the West Side of Southern California where I played alto sax.
My music background has been compartmentalized into 4 areas --- learning a variety of instruments, performing live with a band or musical theatre, composing songs, and understanding the technical side of audio production. Each area complements the other and enhances the end-result.
When I tutor, I like my students to pick the kind of music they want to play. Learning music is not just mastering the notes, but about having a fulfilling and fun experience to feed the soul. When I was at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, I was given the opportunity to hone my musical and theatrical skills in a nurturing and fun setting. In that environment, I excelled in Orchestra, Jazz Band, Acting Classes, Intermediate Piano and AP Music Theory. It’s the same experience that I want to share with the students I partner with.
